How to Dress with Purpose
“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” – is a well-known saying by the American designer Rachel Zoe. And although we agree with it, we would like to add that style is also a way to display fashion resourcefulness and purposefulness.
As women, we have many roles – we are mothers, wives, entrepreneurs. We are multi-taskers, caregivers, architects of society, and as arduous as it may seem, we need to dress accordingly for each of those roles. So how do we accomplish that and stay true to our identity as females?
“DOs” and “DON’Ts”
First, we need to identify the “DOs” and “DON’Ts” regarding fashion and different social and private obligations. Developing a sense of what is appropriate to and not to wear on certain occasions can take some time, research, and experience. And considering that, unfortunately, fast fashion and “instant era” trends do not facilitate the process all too well, it is not uncommon for women to struggle.
The number one tip we can give – Decoding the dress code of the facility, event, or occasion is the place to start.
“DOs”
Attire guide will provide a direction. There are ten dress codes defined, the primary ones being – Casual, Semi-formal, and Business formal.
Casual attire does not demand the following of any specific etiquette. Informal clothing pieces, such as jeans and tees, are absolutely acceptable. However, semi-formal requires combining casual items with formal wear – For instance, plain denim jeans with a sleek silk shirt and leather pumps, or sheer jumpsuit with a tuxedo jacket and flared heels.
Items:
When it comes to Business formal compounds vary. Full matching suits, shirts, trousers, and below-the-knee skirts are fundamental. Experiments with styles and fabrics are allowed as long as they do not include any of the aforementioned Casual pieces. Deciding on a feminine suit with a classic cut and a sophisticated design is always an excellent choice. Add slender but extravagant accessories as an accent.
Items:
- Blouse with long draped sleeves and round neck in beige
- Short jacket with striped pattern and metalized fibre in black
- Pencil skirt with metalised fibre stripes and black slit in black
“DON’Ts”
Do not be exceedingly adventurous. As women, we must learn that simplicity is, to quote Coco Channel, “the keynote of all true elegance”. Instead, be moderately courageous and highlight your feminine side with clothes that suit your body and position.
Versatile Fashion
Supply your wardrobe with staples for each dress code respectively. Opt for versatile designs and can be incorporated in dress-up and down outfits, appropriate for more than a single occasion.
