French Couture Inspiration Behind Modern Fashion

French Couture Inspiration Behind Modern Fashion

From the vivid, voluminous, and ornamental attires of the “Sun King” Louis XIV to the 20th-century’s extravagant designs of Christian Dior, French-style have always had the largest influence over the fashion industry.

Being perpetually fascinated with exoticism and possessing an aspiration to be a step ahead of time, French designers of the past fabricated fashion as we know it today, and here is why their haute couture will remain a paragon of style for generations to come.

Fashion as we know it today

Fashion, as we know it today, began with Paul Poiret, who started his career at the turn of the 20th-century.

Known as Le Magnifique, he reinvented all known style practices by moving away from the established conventions of traditional clothing and deciding to begin representing the world’s transition into a new era. Poiret ended the usage of corsets and introduced new silhouettes, such as the lampshade tunic, the hobble skirt, and the harem pants.

Two of his most famous designs are the “Evening dress” and the “Mademoiselle” dress, both from 1923.

Distinctive, sheer, and elegant – Poiret’s designs accentuated femininity but also documented women’s and fashion’s deliberate transition to independence, paving the way for more changes to follow.

“Fashion changes, style endures”

A bit later, in a similar manner, Coco Chanel impacted fashion tremendously, starting trends, which continue to endure decades later. To illustrate, she introduced trousers for women, put long straps to handbags, experimented with fabrics and patterns, and highlighted the feminine shape of her clothes with belts instead of corsets.

Chanel promoted simplicity, practicality, and elegance. She implemented her belief that women, equally to men, have many purposes in each of designs that she tailored, making them not only modern and sophisticated, but versatile and comfortable, too.

Nowadays, both her and Le Magnifique’s silhouettes still conquer the runways.

Poiret and Channel’s concept of always going further conventional dressmaking, but remaining true to women’s delicate nature is an inspiration for D2Line, too. Therefore, with our latest collection – The Artist, we encompass femininity while taking care of females’ comfort in each of their roles.

The new four pieces project class beyond measure, but are innovative and practical, as well. – The Straight dress with bias cut bands is sleek, smart, and suitable for every occasion. The Asymmetric pleated wide leg pants are made of fine polyester, which creates an alluring silhouette that outlines the body shape. The Cape sleeve midi dress has a shirt collar that mirrors the timeless designs of the past, and the V-neck top with bias cut bands, made of satin, underlines the waist and emboldens the specialty of the female figure.
