A Hard Day’s Night – Kate Garraway
A Hard Day’s Night – Kate Garraway
“I’m not sure that we’ve ever fallen out of love, but I think a new path is emerging, a new way to be in love” says
Kate Garraway, popular tv presenter of Good Morning Britain.
In the last two years she felt her faith. Very painful.
It’s new chapter in her family life and marriage, strong attempt to discover a new formula of living.
What did change the formula of happiness in Kate Garraway’s life?
Two years ago her husband Derek Draper, a PR and a former lobbyist, caught Covid with bad impact on his body and mind
“He puts huge trust in me. He just says, “Whatever you think”, which is wonderful, but I do get quite tearful about it. I think, “God, I hope I’m worthy of that trust”.
But I’ve got his back. That is a relationship in itself, isn’t it?
How many times do couples have doubts about each other?
Their story is heartbreaking but doesn’t sugar coat the reality of being women who has to take care of her husband.
“Actually, loneliness isn’t the right word. There’s a missing of somebody at the same time as being very present with them, like you’re missing the person who is there.
But I’m very lucky that Derek is home, it make[us complete. I get to see our children’s Darcey and Billy’s reaction to him and his reaction to them. Those are powerful, wonderful things.”
But Kate will never give up.
How many nights she prayed “Please let him live”.
And he did live, so from there on anything else is a bonus.
Behind her back are two documentaries about Derek and his family struggle.
The first one “Finding Derek” ( won BAFTA) shows Derek’s condition in the hospital during the first 13 months.
Kate Garraway describes her new reality both with the good and bad sides with extraordinary bravery and honesty.
Her love is clear maybe old -fashioned but true one.
It is very useful because she collects information about the impact of long Covid patients and their families.
“He is still him. That person that you love. He might behave differently and look different – that will be difficult for us both. I’m trying to look on it as a rather beautiful thing. We’ll have to fall in love again.”
Few weeks ago Kate presented the second documentary “ Caring for Derek” about his return to home.
Her philosophy is that this story has to be real, to show the reality which is not so pretty.
On the other side her career is blooming.
“It’s a funny, odd thing, isn’t it? The yin and yang of life”.
